Become A Better Entrepreneur By Reading: Who Moved My Cheese?

One of my new year’s resolutions was to read one book every month. I started with a short one, to make my goal a little bit easier to reach. I was surprised how a book, shorter than 100 pages, could hold so much practical knowledge. The book, of course, is Who Moved My Cheese? by Dr. Spencer Johnson.

What makes this book great.

The world is full of self-help books, blogs, and videos. Many contain useful knowledge and handy tips, but lose their audience with a lot of extra details that no one cares about. They do this to appear smarter or to make the book thicker. This might make it easier to sell, but once the reader reads page after page of mindless jargon, they usually put it down.

This is where Who Moved My Cheese? is different. As I mentioned it is a very short book. On the first few pages, the author directs the readers to the most relevant section of the book. Those in a rush or with very little patience can simply skip to this section and learn the life lessons this book offers. The most important section is only 52 pages, written in a larger font and double spacing. You can acquire the life lessons which this book offers in one sitting. Not many books can boast this feature.

The lessons learned.

Dr. Johnson uses a simple tale to explain simple, yet overlooked facts, about how humans reason. When I say simple, I mean that they are easy to understand, but not easy to deal with. One of the biggest lessons of the story is overcoming your fear. Fear is probably the main reason any of us; entrepreneurs, professionals, students, keep back from doing what we would like to.

Another lesson learned was on the importance of being productive, rather than being busy. Another point that struck me was how many of us do the same thing over and over, and yet expect a different result. These and other lessons that could be learned from Who Moved My Cheese? are discussed in this blog. I, nevertheless, strongly recommend reading this book as it will reinforce what you learn from The Fun Entrepreneur. You can truly become a better entrepreneur just by reading this book.

Ah! George, writer’s block is a very common problem faced by many creative writers – and we’re no exception. When we just can’t sit down and write or don’t know what to write, we distract our minds with exercise, reading or watching Youtube videos. These distractions calm us and remove the pressure and stress caused by writer’s block. If that is not enough we simply leave the writing for the next day.
